Transport Women Australia Ltd

Transport Women Australia Ltd, a National Organisation, is a proactive group of committed people within all modes of the transport industry, who particularly want to support the role of women working within the industry. The mission statement says - "Transport Women Australia Ltd promotes the contribution women make to our industry and will pursue their right for input to issues and policy".

The Transport Women Board is committed to supporting projects and working with other organizations on our members behalf within the transport industry, and other industries.

Transport Women Australia Ltd is particularly interested in being involved in research and training projects which further its objects and promote clear career paths.

The organization is currently putting together a research paper that will give substantial data and statistics on the Continued Economic and Social Viability of Owner Operators and Small Transport Businesses in Regional, Rural and Remote areas across Australia. This is such a crucial issue in this sector of the industry which constitutes 70% of the transport task nationally.

The flow on effects of any drought impacts heavily on the transport industry, and the recent Survival and Sustainability seminars were a testament to that.

Functions are held in different areas of Australia on a regular basis to provide an opportunity for members and guests to network locally, regionally and nationally. There is the opportunity to develop skills, abilities and confidence to enhance career paths in the industry, attend training seminars and be a part of a supportive network in a friendly environment.

Transport Women Australia Ltd are proud to have provided scholarships for training in the Transport Industry for the third year in a row, and have had successful applicants who have gone on to further their careers in areas such as completing units in a Masters Degree in Logistics, doing a forklift course, completing a Heavy Rigid and Heavy Vehicle drivers course, Office Management and O H & S, as well as providing entry to the industry for six people to date.

Scholarships totaling $8,000.00 were awarded for 2005 and will also be available for 2006 and applicants are welcomed from all areas of the industry

The Objectives of Transport Women Australia Ltd are -

  • To support women's contribution to the transport industry and present views from their perspective
  • To promote professional development, leadership and training opportunities for women in the transport industry
  • To promote effective networking within the transport industry
  • To provide recognition and a forum for women working in, or who have an interest in the transport industry
  • To promote professional, sustainable and respectful practices as essential elements within the transport industry
  • To promote clear career paths and encourage graduates and young people to work in the transport industry
